Program Manager - POSITION AVAILABLE
Reports To: Executive Director
Works With:Teacher Farmers, part-time
and full-time Farm Hands, community educators, parents and organization
leaders, Farm Manager, and the office staff.
Summary: To manage all aspects of
educational programming at the FARM; including school programming,
summer camp, family programs, workshops and other planned programs;
and to facilitate experiences which enhance visitor experiences
at the FARM.
Hours of Work: This is a full time
exempt position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include
the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Education Program
- Plan and implement TFI's summer programs
- Plan and schedule
all school and public visits to the FARM
- Create and deliver programs
to visitors
- Coordinate activities and educational programming
with Farm Manager
- Hiring, training, supervision and support of
education staff and interns--summer (15) and seasonal (1-2)
- Effectively
develop education programs in accordance to the mission statement
- Management
of education materials
- Develop and manage the education department
budget
- Produce regular reports for the ED as requested
- Provide effective
leadership in overall FARM management as part of the management
team
- Facilitate and manage program billing and process related
paper work (student/group progress, notes about activities,
etc.)
- Work with visiting teachers/leaders to provide effective
programs
- Collaborate with local educators, school programs, farmers
and agricultural resources to facilitate rewarding hands-on,
place-based learning experiences
- Collaborate with the Executive
Director to develop and implement short-term and long-term educational
objectives
- Supervise the creation of the calendar for the school
year (being aware of events, vacations, slow and busy times,
and professional development)
- Coordinate print material for promotion
and operation of the Education Program
- Represent TFI's Education
Program at specific board and public events
- Field general phone
calls that come into the department
- Be aware of funding needs
and ideas and communicate those to the ED
- Review program evaluations
on a regular basis
- Coordinate Education Program office space,
computer and phone needs
- Act as lead staff with Board Education

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES
Responsible for managing seasonal teacher farmers, interns and
volunteers, summer teaching staff, CITs and summer administrative
assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements
listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or
abilities required.
- Superior staff management skills
- Minimum Bachelor’s
degree in a related subject and 5 years experience managing outdoor
education programming
- Masters Degree in related field preferred
- Strong administrative
skill set including: database management, recordkeeping, accounts
receivable and file management. Good
written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy
with MS Office software
- Ability to work well with the public
and represent TFI in a professional manner
- Experience and ability
to work with multiple colleagues, good organization and attention
to detail, and ability to work efficiently and effectively without
close supervision
- Experiences that exemplify traditional and innovative
methods for collaboration and problem solving
- Considerable exposure
to agriculture

- A background in education, animal husbandry, growing,
environmental sciences or related fields
- Experience and ability working with multiple colleagues;

supervisors, support staff and other members of The FARM Institute
community.
