Thank
you for your interest in volunteering at The FARM Institute (TFI).
TFI will bloom this season with your enthusiastic support and energetic
participation. Together we will create an environment that demonstrates
the importance of local and sustainable agriculture to our community.
While volunteering at TFI you will be working in a dynamic farming
and teaching environment. Here you will interact with teachers,
students and experienced farm staff, and be encouraged to participate
in ongoing education and agriculture projects. We aim to provide
an environment where you can learn new skills and share your talents
with us.
We are an active part of the community, and we want you to be
an active part of our organization. Whether you like working with
animals, tending gardens, or working in an office, we have the
perfect opportunity for you! It doesn't matter if you are younger,
older, or somewhere in-between. Come share your talents and skills
with us, and feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment by volunteering
with us. With your support we will create one of the best teaching
farms in New England.
Volunteering is easy:
- Please fill out the volunteer application and submit it with
a brief letter of intent.
- A TFI staff member will then call to
discuss volunteer opportunities with you. Tell us your interests,
and we will provide the training for a rewarding experience.
- TFI
staff will then arrange a time to give you a tour of the farm
and TFI buildings.
We look forward to working with you at the farm this season!
Education Volunteers:
As an education volunteer
you will help us attain our mission to reconnect children and the
community with the culture of agriculture. Our teachers welcome
you to contribute to our education programs in the classroom, in
the Friendship Garden, and out in the fields. If you have past
teaching experience or possess the desire to share your enthusiasm
for farming, then this volunteer position is the one for you!
Farming and Gardening Volunteers:
You will assist
in the many diverse farming activities at Katama Farm. If you enjoy
being outdoors, helping gardens grow, or love animals we have a
role for you. Whether you are planting or weeding, feeding livestock
or fencing, you will make a significant impact at the farm. This
volunteer opportunity will require manual dexterity, and at times
the joy of hard work.
Office Volunteers:
Office assistants will provide
critical event planning, outreach, and administrative support.
Your help in the TFI office will enable us to execute fundraising
and "friend-raising" celebrations
that support our mission.
Event Volunteers:
TFI hosts many fundraising
and friendraising events throughout the year. Your help at a TFI
event could involve set-up, staffing a booth, selling t-shirts
and hats, welcoming guests and visitors, and clean-up. Inherent
in all of these positions is the desire to help TFI spread its
mission and get the community involved. Your help ensures our success!
Summer Camp Volunteers:
One way to get involved with teaching and farming at TFI is through
our summer camp. TFI camp provides week-long learning opportunities
for children ages 4-14. The children get hands-on experience
working with a wide variety of livestock, field crops, gardening,
as well as in carpentry and farm mechanics. Your volunteering
would provide added support to our summer camp teaching staff.
If you have experience working with children and wish to share
in a unique learning experience this is the volunteer opportunity
for you.
The possibilities are endless! TFI will work with you to create
the right fit for your skills and our needs. Thank you for your
consideration in being a part of the TFI team.
