A New Season, A New Year
  December 12, 2006

Dear Friend of Katama Farm,
chocolate delight
The snow has fallen on the fields of Katama. Winter is here.

For a brief moment, we now can take a deep breath and reflect on the passing fall and get ready for the New Year. Taking a moment we all agree that it has been an awesome fall.

Teaching the value of farms and connecting children to where their food comes speaks to the core of our values. This fall demonstrated that Katama Farm is the tool to reach and engage children in our mission. Over 700 children participated in the season's programs offered at TFI. Programs such as our school field trips, Farmers In Training and Pre-school programs gave children of all ages the opportunity to harvest the fall crops, prepare the garden for the winter, care for our animals and learn through enrichment activities such as fiber arts, cooking, and traditional crafts.

But coming to Katama Farm is not just for kids. The FARM Institute is proud to announce its first adult program: Chocolate Delight! The workshop will be held at Katama Farm on Sunday December 17, 5 - 8 pm. Click here for more details.

Katama Farm is your farm. As TFI builds its adult programs we want to hear what you want to experience, learn and discover. Please take one minute to fill out this easy online survey. Your input is invaluable. Click here to take the Adult Program Survey now.

As our community becomes more aware of the benefits of eating grass-fed meat and pastured poultry our meat sales have grown. We sold 600 lbs of beef, 250 lbs of lamb, 40 turkeys and 100's of chickens. But don't despair if you or your family missed out on this healthy and tasty fare. We still have Cornish rock chickens and lamb for sale. Please stop by Katama Farm to pick up your chickens and lamb today. Click here for more information about our chickens and why we raise our animals on a grass fed diet.

Lastly, we wanted to acknowledge dreams do come true. Special thanks to Mike Cassidy for donating his 1988 F150 pick-up truck to become our new farm chore vehicle.

Winter is indeed here. But we will be toasty warm working on preparing for a new season of programs, maintaining and improving our facilities, and laying the groundwork for summer's activities.

We wish you and your family a delicious holiday and hope to see you down on the farm.

Warm regards,

Rob
