COOKBOOK AUTHORS BRING SUSTAINABILITY TO THE TABLE
Chef Ryan Hardy Hosts Guest Author Dinner and Inspires Food for
Thought
(Edgartown, Mass…April 21, 2005) – On Wednesday, May 4, Chef Ryan Hardy welcomes cookbook authors
John Ash, Jessica Harris, Tina Miller, and Catherine Walthers to
The Coach House at the Harbor View Hotel for an unprecedented Guest
Author Dinner. Ryan, a champion of local purveyors, will integrate
island ingredients into these talented author’s recipes for
a special evening where guests can meet the authors and discuss
sustainability, wine and food pairings, how food gets from the farm
to the table, and trends.
“What a treat to be able to host such talented folks,”
says Ryan of his guest authors. “They are not just exceptional
cooks—they ‘get’ the essence of the Vineyard.
When you live in a community as close-knit as an island one is,
you learn to help each other. I am really looking forward to working
with each of them and exploring new recipes.”
A reception of light hors d’oeuvre, Chef Ryan’s homemade
cheeses, and wine begins at 5:30 p.m., where the authors will be
available to sign copies of their cookbooks (book sales handled
by Edgartown Books on Main Street). The dinner begins at 6:00 and
is open seating until 9:00. Ryan’s menu items will be available
both á la carte (entrées range from $15-20) or in
a $30 prix fixe. Authors will be
available throughout the evening to share their passions and discuss
their recipes.
The dinner follows a Martha’s Vineyard Commission and Southeastern
Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership Business to Business Networking
Session held at the Harbor View Hotel where local restaurants, chefs,
caterers, retailers, and other food purchasers will convene to connect
with island farmers, fishermen, and shell fishermen. The purpose
is to promote the demand for island agricultural and aqua-cultural
products through fostering better working relationships between
island growers and buyers. The session will feature light fare prepared
by Chef Ryan and the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group. Attendees
can go from this session to the dinner and continue to learn more
about the many quality crops and specialty food products on Martha’s
Vineyard.
Ryan’s commitment to using native-grown vegetables, Vineyard-raised
meats, and locally-caught seafood gives his food a distinct freshness
and seasonality while supporting a way of life for island farmers,
fishermen and growers. He also uses dairy products from island farms
in his kitchen and showcases this local sheep, goat, and cow milk
in his own homemade cheeses. By using local milk, Ryan even saved
one goat farm from going out of business.
