"Our Time at the Farm" teen photography show and "Plow
Day" at the Farm
Institute
- a special Cinco de Mayo celebration cosponsored by the Center for
Creative Expression and the Farm Institute. Event Date: May 5, 2007
Edgartown, MA—Next Saturday
the Center for Creative Expression's student photography
group, the "Farm Group," will exhibit the very best work
from their weekly photodocumentary expeditions throughout last
fall and winter to the Farm Institute in Katama in a show titled "Our
Time at the Farm." MVRHS
students Arno Ewing, Sophia Grimm, Stuart Rodegast, Seth Seeman,
Hilary
Wall, and Andy Walsh, under the direction of Janice Baer, director
of the
Center for Creative Expression, will be exhibiting their documentary
and
fine art photographs of life on the Farm - the livestock, the crops,
the
people, and the activities - everything from grade-school farm
kids
pitchforking hay to Thanksgiving turkey "processing."
The opening reception will be on Cinco de Mayo, Saturday May 5th,
from
4:00-6:00PM, at the Farm Institute in Edgartown. The Farm gallery
will be
open Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm. The exhibit will run until May
19th.
Also on Saturday, Liz Thompson and her oxen will be holding plowing
demonstrations as part of the second annual Plow Day. Come help
out and
prepare the garden and fields using the traditional New England
craft of
plowing with oxen.
The Center for Creative Expression is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization
dedicated to the personal, civic, and artistic development of Martha’s
Vineyard teenagers. The center's other teen photography group,
the
Wednesday Group, recently had a photography show at Featherstone.
The FARM Institute is dedicated to reconnecting children and the
the
island community with the culture of agriculture.
