This fall, the FARM Institute will once again welcome several classes
each week to the property for field trips. The FARM Institute curriculum
adapts each season to the rhythms of the planting, harvesting and
renewal of the land. It is this dynamic cycle, and the many cycles
and systems within it that we share with visiting students. Through
our work, it is our hope to encourage inquiring minds, confidence
in problem solving, and a conservation ethic
The Farm is open to visiting classes on Wednesdays, Thursdays
and Fridays for morning afternoon, or day-long visits. Some alternative
days are available so please contact the farm if you are interested
in other days.
The Farm will provide you with necessary trip permission forms,
pre-visit activities and a "what to bring" list.
- The development of description, examination, and identification
skills
- The flow of energy through the food chain
- Soil composition and the role of living organisms in soil formation
- The origins of everyday items and foods
- Light’s effect on plant growth
- If you have your own vision for your class visit, please let
us know.
- To augment the learning experiences teachers offer in their
classroom by providing experiential, place-based lessons and activities
to engage all learners
- To introduce students and the community to the lessons and
experiences of contributing on an organic working farm and local
food source
- To connect students and the community with the legacy of Martha’s
Vineyard’s rich agricultural history
Are you involved with a special island organization (Girls Scouts,
Boy Scouts, Boys & Girls Club, etc.)? We’d be happy to
plan a half or full-day program designed to suit your group’s
interests and needs utilizing the unique seasonal opportunities
here at the FARM Institute.
