What is the mission of the FARM Institute?
The FARM Institute was established in 2000 with the objective of reconnecting children and the community with the culture of agriculture. Click here for more information about our mission.

How many acres does TFI manage?
Katama Farm is 162 acres. TFI uses 110 acres for pasture and hay, 6 acres for produce gardens, 20 acres are used by Morning Glory Farm and 20 acres are used by Whippoorwill Farm. The remaining acreage is made up of trails, roads, and buildings. <back to top>

Do you sell meat and produce?
Our own pastured meats and produce is available for purchase at the Farm Stand. The Farm Stand is open Mon-Sat 11 am- 4 pm. TFI also sells produce at the West Tisbury Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and at the Tisbury Harbor Market on Tuesdays.

Where is the Corn Maze?
The 5-acre Corn Maze is located across the street from the parking lot and towards the air field. Follow the signs. There is a self-pay box or an attendant present to collect payment. The cost is $5 for ages 3-14, $10 for adults.

What is sustainable agriculture?
Sustainable agriculture is an integrated system of plant and animal production which, over the long term, satisfies human food and fiber needs, enhances environmental quality, makes the most efficient use of nonrenewable resources, sustains the economic viability of farm operations and enhances the quality of life for farmers and society as a whole.

How does TFI fund its mission?
Achieving The FARM Institute’s mission depends on your support. 65% of TFI’s income is from charitable gifts. Honor a special person, day or event in your life with a tribute gift. Donations of all amounts are gratefully accepted.

Can I lend a hand?
We always welcome volunteers throughout the year. There is plenty to do on the FARM Please get involved and get your hands dirty For more information, see the "How Do I" panel on the kiosk or speak with our Chrissy, our Volunteer Coordinator.

Where are the bathrooms?
There are no bathrooms available for public use. The closest public restrooms are located at South Beach.

Are the fences electric?
Most of the fences at TFI are electric. Please do not enter pens or livestock paddocks at any time.

Is TFI a year-round operation?
TFI is open year-round. In addition to our summer programs we also run Residential, Afterschool and Saturday programs during the school year.

Where is the FARM Institute located? How do I get there?
You need to take the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard. For information on ferry schedules and prices, visit the Steamship Authority website.

Directions to The FARM Institute at Katama Farm from Upper Main Street, Edgartown by the Stop & Shop

Continue towards Edgartown approximately 0.2 miles. Upper Main Street forks to the right and becomes Cooke Street. Proceed to a Stop sign.

Continue straight to a second Stop sign, and then turn Right onto Pease Point Way. You see signs to “South Beach”.
Continue on Pease Point Way through 2 Stop signs.

You will come to a fork in the road, and keep left.

Proceed approximately 1.6 miles and you will approach a small FARM Institute and Aero Avenue sign on your right.

Take a right on Aero Ave. Proceed on the dirt farm lane until you reach the parking area for the farm on your right.
